Typographica 7 edited by Herbert Spencer
Herbert Spencer was the editor and founder of the highly coveted Typographica design journal. A total of thirty two issues were published between the years of 1949 and 1967. The journal was known for its high standards in design and production and eclectic mix of subject matter.
I love the cover of this issue and the printing and construction is top notch.
The contents of Typographica 7 include:
Thirty six typographers: work by Alan Flecther, Colin Forbes, Bob Gill, Tom Wolsey, Dennis Bailey, Derek Birdsall, George Mayhew, Peter Wilbur, Robert Brownjohn, Matthew Carter, Theo Crosby, Germano Facetti, Ken Garland, Richard Hollis and others
Design and history of Manhole covers, an article on Piet Zwart by Herbert Spencer, photographs by Euan Duff, an article on ephemera by Nicolete Gray and photos by Roger Mayne and Peter Boyce.
The issue is set in Monotype Grotesque series 215/216 and includes special inserts and pages printed by letterpress and offset-litho.
