holy cats. those are fantastic. you just don’t see design in teh auto industry like that anymore. not even close.

Those absolutely amazing. Nice that it’s solid type on a picture. Not an overly processed and filterized image with shiny type. Well done.

Drew: You don’t see wonderful design like that anymore in the auto industry because it is all about flash, glam, and overpowering design sensibilities in an effort to sell overpriced cars.

Far out. But all the images have links to the Tim Gough interview. I was hoping they’d link to larger versions of each.

I agree with Steve, the posters are beautiful, but no larger image when you click on the pic, I think they are broken.

Hi guys, I fixed the issue with the links. Unfortunately, I was only able to find large versions for the first two images.

Very nice – these posters were distributed to dealers to decorate the showroom and give to valued customers. I’ve got about a dozen or so from my days as lowly “lot boy” at a Porsche Audi dealer in the late 80′s – Most are newer than the ones pictured, but I do have a copy of the Fuji 1000KM. Unfortunately, they’re not in the best shape, as I had them taped on my wall way back when – they just looked cool, I never considered they might be valuable…

still so revelant today. what an era!

All,

About a 4 years ago I contacted the Porsche’s Historisches Archiv and Mr. Lewandowski about working together on an updated and expanded version of his 1984 Porsche racing poster book: ‘Porsche Plakate – Posters – Affiches’. After a few years of determining who exactly could publish the book, Delius-Klasing stepped up and we started research. Over the past 2-3 years I have gone through 21 private Porsche poster collections looking for racing posters missing from Porsche’s extensive collection. There are over 35 new posters that date from 1951-1984 not to mention the hundreds of posters printed over the last 23 years. It is quite remarkable to see the artistic progression through the decades, especially now that each poster is reproduced in full color!

During my search I uncovered the earliest factory commissioned poster ever found which commemorates Porsche’s 1100cc class win at Le Mans in 1951 with a 356SL coupe. It has been said that this very early victory was the whole reason Erich Strenger started designing posters for Porsche in the first place. It is very likely that the ’51 Le Mans 24 poster is the first.

If you have any questions regarding the bilingual (German/English) ‘Porsche – Die Rennplakate: Von 1951 bis Heute’ please ask away.

I have over 200 vintage posters dating back to the early 70′s to the late 80′s, did you ever figure out what posters the factory archive was missing?
