Vinni Puh video – The Russian Winnie the Pooh

vinni puh video from 1969

Winnie the Pooh has been around since the 1920′s. In the early 1960s the character was licensed to Disney for a series of features that debuted in 1966. The Russian version of this cartoon known as Vinni Puh aired in 1969. You can see an episode here.

It’s weird to see the Russian interpretation. I’m so used to the chunky orange American version. This guy looks like an Ewok.

Really enjoyed the video. Many thanks to Chris for sending this our way.

You do realize that now I’m going to have that little ditty he was talking or singing? in my head for the rest of the day…

I thought he was monstrously cute. I live Vinie better than Winnie.

Hey,

you should also see The Mole, it’s even better.

The same we have said, when we saw american version – It was too strange for us:)

Great addition Luna,
I remember the mole. So good. I love Zdenek Miler’s illustrations. I’ve seen other kids books by him as well. All top notch.

I saw some episodes in my animation history class including several interviews with the creators and them meeting their US-american colleagues loving the Russian interpretation of the book adaptation. There are some more wonderful movies by the same guys to seek for.

I used to watch it when I was a kid in Russia, it was my very favorite. When I got to see the Disney version on Winnie – I was very sad for him. He is charmles and so very stupid and yellow.
You would have enjoyed it even more if you could understand how funny the dialog is! The voice behind the character is by Leonov, who looks exactly like the Russian Winnie the Pooh himself.
Thanks for bringing this up!
